Heathen Hearts is a Finnish metallic hardcore band formed in autumn 2021. The band draws influence from melodic metal as well as newer wave of hardcore.
The band is currently working on new material and we took the opportunity to have a chat with Jere: Guitars / Backing vocals and Juhana: Bass about their music listening habits!
What was the last song you listened to?
Actually a new mix of the opening track from our next release. -Jere
Same here. We are currently in a mixing phase of our next release so listening to a lot of those tracks. -Juhana
Do you listen to your own songs when you’re driving or working out?
Usually when there are demo’s or mixes to be listened to, then yes. But after release, not that much. Maybe on some rare occasions when you play them to your friends or something. -Jere

You’re in a club or venue and one of your tracks comes on. What do you do?
Continue drinking my beer and talking to my friends. -Jere
Continue whatever I’m doing. -Juhana
What music most comes to mind when you think of growing up?
Michael Jackson and Iron Maiden. -Jere
Mötley Crüe, Bon Jovi, Kiss, Def Leppard, Whitesnake, etc. -Juhana
What are you listening to at the moment that we should check out?
Finnish band called “HARMS”. That is some atmospheric metal, a very good band, one of the best I’ve heard in a while. -Jere
Eivør. Brilliant singer. -Juhana
What one song instantly makes you smile when you hear it?
Might be a bit surprising but Madonna - Papa don’t preach. That is my ultimate party anthem. -Jere
This might also be surprising but Dađi Freyr: ”Think about things”. Partly because of the music video :). -Juhana
What is your guilty pleasure?
Well one of my music playlist is a kind of a guilty pleasure for a creature that is playing in metal / hardcore / punk bands. Good songs are good songs though. -Jere
I’m not sure if I have one. Maybe some music on my playlists could qualify as a guilty pleasure. -Juhana
What album do you always listen to all the way through?
Two first Iron Maiden albums. Still the best of the best, even though I might like the Bruce era more all in all. -Jere
All Wardruna albums, Century Child by Nightwish and one that I always go back to is Type O Negative’s October Rust. -Juhana
What track would you like to cover?
I always like covers from different genres that you and your band play, so that there is a little bit of work to do with the arrangements etc. But I cannot think of any particular song at the moment. At one moment we were discussing with our singer Antti about “Foo Fighters - The pretender” so let’s go with that then. -Jere
There are many songs that I’ve thought of but I think the last song that I suggested to the guys was Smashing Pumpkins’ ”Bullet with the butterfly wings”. -Juhana
