We caught up with Dino for a chat about all things Sages....
Thanks for chatting to us today Dino, can you introduce yourself and tell us what you do in the band?
What's up, my name is Dino. I play guitar and sing.
Tell us a little about your band, how you got together?
Well, we were all fans of each other's old bands back in the day. Chris played drums in Far and in Crosses, Matt was the vocalist for Simon Says, Ryan and I played in various bands from the same area, and essentially we were all just fans of each other. Eventually we all became friends and started playing music together.
Tell us a bit about your latest single, what’s the story behind the song?
"Walk Away" is about walking away from a situation you're attached to and invested in, but know it just isn't healthy for you. Nothing metaphorical or subliminal about it, just straight to the point.
What is your writing process like? Do you start with lyrics and then come up with a melody or is it the other way round?
Lyrics always come last for me. I have to hear the instrumental first, then I'll write the melody, then fill that melody in with lyrics that I feel correspond with the vibe of the music.
What bands were you listening to when you were writing this release? Do you think it had an effect on the end sound?
Normally I'd say that the bands I was listening to at the time would have certainly had an effect on the end sound, but in this case, I think the sound was mostly inspired by the inherent influence and inspiration that came from bands like Deftones, or He Is Legend, or various doom and stoner rock bands, because at the time this song was written, I don't think any of us were listening to much rock music.
What can you tell us about the release that the song has come from?
At this point, all I can say is that it's going to be part of a 5 song EP that will be coming out in the Fall.
What would people be surprised to know about you?
When I first started playing music in a band I went on a diet and lost a hundred pounds.
Do you have any shows coming up that we should get ourselves along to?
If this was last week, I'd say we absolutely have something for you. We just got back from a one-off show we did in Tucson, AZ at a party Sean Gatz threw in the middle of the Sonoran desert. It was a really cool event and I would have totally suggested that you get yourselves out to it, but as of right now, we don't have anything else booked. Make sure to follow us on Instagram and TikTok though to stay updated because we'll definitely have more shows coming up soon.
Thanks for chatting to us Dino, that show definitely sounded like something we would have enjoyed!
