Kidderminsters Nightblade release their explosive new single 'Thats The Way You Want It' this Friday.
We sat down with Mark from the band to talk about the release and what's coming up for the band.
Introduce yourself and tell us what you do in the band?
Hello, my name is Mark Crosby and I am the lead singer and songwriter for Nightblade.
Tell us a little about your band, how you got together.
Originally Nightblade formed by me replying to an advertisement in a rehearsal studio in Birmingham to start up a rock band.
Tell us a bit about your latest single, what’s the story behind the song?
That's The Way You Want it is derived from a situation whereby someone is going through life, a bit like the proverbial 'Bull in A China Shop'. Carrying on regardless and upsetting everyone on their path with little self-awareness.
What is your writing process like? Do you start with lyrics and then come up with a melody or is it the other way round?
I invariably come up with the lyrics and melody combined and fit the music to that.
What bands were you listening to when you were writing this release? Do you think it had an effect on the end sound?
To be honest I wasn't listening to any one band or album whilst writing the release. I try and steer clear from other music whilst writing so it doesn't influence too much.
You have a music video to go along with this single, what is the story behind that, was it fun to make?
We actually filmed it at Bewdley High School where I went back in the day, it was very Deja Vu..We filmed on a Sunday so the school was closed, but yes we did have a good time filming it.
What can you tell us about the release that the song has come from?
That's The Way You Want it is the fourth album in as many years. It was compiled by some overflow from Hope To Be There, with some new songs written on top. We put the together the album with our usual diversity tactics. We do like to keep people guessing a little whilst trying to continue the Nightblade sound.
What would people be surprised to know about you?
I run an upmarket gym in town and have a passion for health and fitness. I got a Good Citizens Award for rescuing a body out of the River Severn when I was at school.
Do you have any shows coming up that we should get ourselves along to?
We are currently looking at dates on the back of the album, which will launch early December - so dates will be organised for next year.
