London-based four-piece Dirty Mitts have fast become one of our favourite bands. With their combination of bluesy, vintage, and energetic tunes they are well on their way to becoming one of the most exciting bands on the scene.
Latest release 'You Better Run! (Villains Theme) is all over rock radio right now.
We caught up with them a little while ago to chat about the band and the single.
Introduce yourself and tell us what you do in the band?
Hey there, rock enthusiasts! We are Dirty Mitts, a hard-hitting, high-energy rock band ready to blow your minds. I'm Tommy, the passionate frontman and lead vocalist, delivering the raw and raucous vocals that will ignite your souls!
Tell us a little about your band, how you got together and the story behind the name if there is one.
Dirty Mitts is the result of a cosmic collision of musical talents from different corners of the world. Matt, the bass player, hails from the UK, while Mo, the skilled guitarist, represents the bluesy vibes of Egypt. And we can't forget about Mateusz, our powerhouse drummer from Poland! We all came together in 2022, brought together by a shared love for loud rock 'n' roll. As for the name, well, let's just say it's a tribute to our rebellious nature and the fact that no matter how hard you scrub, the dirt just won't come off!
Tell us a bit about your latest single, what’s the story behind the song?
Our latest single, "You Better Run," is a powerhouse inspired by the action and scale of early Marvel films. It all started with the electrifying rock songs that accompanied intense battle sequences in movies like Iron Man, igniting a creative spark. The song transports listeners to a world where superpowers are unknown, as a winged man descends from the sky, becoming "the first one of our kind." Confronted by an unprepared army, chaos ensues, with humanity's aggression fueling revenge within the superhuman. With the addition of our new band members, the raw power of "You Better Run" has been unleashed, showcasing our evolution as a band and delivering a hard-hitting and captivating musical experience.
What is your writing process like? Do you start with lyrics and then come up with a melody or is it the other way round?
Our writing process is diverse and dynamic, with each song having a unique approach. Sometimes, a powerful riff or catchy melody sparks our creativity and drives the song forward. Other times, it's the raw emotions and experiences that shape the lyrics and melody. We let the music guide us, allowing each song to take its own form. Interestingly, our latest single, "You Better Run," was actually written nearly a decade ago but has undergone a transformation to reach its full potential. It's an exciting milestone for us to finally release this song to the world, showcasing the growth and evolution of Dirty Mitts over the years.
What bands were you listening to when you were writing this release? Do you think it had an effect on the end sound?
We immersed ourselves in the timeless rock anthems of Led Zeppelin, the rebellious spirit of Guns N' Roses, and the electrifying energy of AC/DC. These legends undeniably influenced our sound, infusing our music with that nostalgic yet fresh vibe. You might just catch a glimpse of their fiery influence when you listen to our tracks!
A little birdy tells me you have a music video to go along with this single, what is the story behind that, was it fun to make?
We're excited to announce that an animated music video is in the works for "You Better Run." Inspired by the song's narrative and the epic scale of early Marvel films, the video portrays a world where superhuman powers are unleashed for the first time. It follows the story of a winged man and the chaos that ensues when the army confronts him. The animation brings this captivating story to life, and we had a blast making it. What would people be surprised to know about you?
Well, here's a surprise for you - when we're not rocking the stage, each of us has a completely different day job! We come from diverse backgrounds and have unique professions that might catch you off guard. Let's just say, in our everyday lives, you might find us in roles like a lawyer, a hotel manager, a manager at Whole Foods, and even running a children's party company called Captain Fantastic.

Absolutely! We have an electrifying show coming up that you won't want to miss. On Thursday, July 6th, we'll be rocking the stage at the Star of Kings in London.
